It’s said that a rest is as good as a change, and with a six month old with energy to burn and work being full on recently, a rest was what we needed. So a little over a week ago Sian, Quinn and I packed our bags (mostly of Quinn’s things) and headed off to Malta for a week’s holiday.
The question I’ve been asked the most since Quinn’s birth is, “what’s it like to be a dad”… since the days immediately after her arrival right up to today, her six month birthday, I’ve always answered the same way… “Amazing, incredible, she’s beautiful, it’s the best thing”, because for me it is and if that sounds cliché, well that’s because it is… because really what else can you say?
Christmas is a time for family, and this year we were really lucky to have both of our families together in one place to share in Quinn’s first Christmas. A special moment considering that most of my family live in Perth, Australia.
Family came first over the last few weeks so my blog has taken a back seat, but the advantage of that is there’s much to tell you about. But that will have to wait until next time, for now here’s a little update of our last few days…

This past week I turned 30… I know, I’m getting old right!?
Up until recently I could have forgotten that this year would be my 30th. I say could have forgotten because the constant reminders from friends, whose pleasure in reaching that milestone after me was palpable, meant that it was impossible to.
Up until now our weekends with Quinn have been split between our home in London and family in Essex, and before this one we’d not spent one completely on our own. So on Friday Quinn, Sian and I packed our bags (lots of them) and headed for the beautiful town of Rochester.
Neither Sian nor I are particularly good morning people. Previously, on a daily basis I would set three or four alarms to make sure I actually got up for work, and at weekend’s it wasn’t uncommon for Sian to get up just in time for lunch. However, neither of these things happens very often anymore because we have a very effective little alarm clock in the form of Quinn.

So because I waited until Quinn was a little more than three months old to start this blog, there are lots of stories and moments I haven’t yet shared with you from during Sian’s pregnancy and Quinn’s first months. Over the next few weeks and months I will mix up stories from the here and now, with some from before I started this blog. If there’s anything in particular you’d like to hear about just leave your suggestion as a comment below.
Today Quinn is 15 weeks old! Writing it like that it doesn’t sound like long but we’ve done so much in the time that it feels much longer.
And when you consider that because of work much of what we do as a three is restricted to evenings and even more so weekends, it’s probably not surprising that this weekend like most others was filled with things to do and people to see…
Try to imagine, if you can, what it must feel like to feel unwell for the very first time. You and I will have been unwell many times with varying levels of severity, and because of this we know that eventually the sniffles and shivers will pass, and we’ll feel better.
But your baby doesn’t know this comfort, not the first time. For them life is good, they’re happily going along eating, sleeping, pooping and repeating all of these in no particular order and then out of nowhere, bam!!!… a sore throat, runny nose, aches and pains, or in Quinn’s case a chesty cough.
“I’m going to write a blog…”
That was me a year ago when my wife, Sian, told me we were going to have a baby. And what have I done since? Not a lot.
Well that’s not strictly true, obviously lots has happened since. There have been 38 and a half weeks of pregnancy, and 13 weeks of baby. In that time I’ve changed job, we’ve been to two weddings, a stag do and a hen do each. We’ve celebrated ten years together, made baby announcements, had weekends away with friends and family, painted and decorated a nursey, done more DIY and assembly than probably the rest of my life combined, plus all the other things I can’t remember. It’s been a busy year, which is maybe why in regards to writing a blog I’ve done very little.
